You Capture: Sunrise/Sunset

I might have mentioned before that I am a turrrible photographer. (Yep and yep) But I really like having pictures, so participating in You Capture is my way of forcing myself to get in the habit of taking pictures, perhaps improving at it and also convincing my husband that I NEED a shiny new camera. Also, Gretchen told me it is the camera more than the photographer and she is really smart so I blame all my lousy pictures on our old camera. It is TOTALLY the camera’s fault. Hah!

This week’s subject was sunrise/sunset. My thoughts: “Gee, there have only been about 57849030275894 AWESOME pictures taken of sunrises and sunsets, how can I get creative with that? GAH.” But I was going to be on a plane for a sunset! Surely I could get a really cool shot.

Yes, maybe if they would ever CLEAN THE DANG PLANE WINDOWS.

Boo.

(Also of note, I took this from the middle seat, awkward much?)

But then, when I was in Florida there was a sunset that lit the sky with really cool colors.

While we were in the car.

And in a hurry.

So no stopping.

An improvement over the plane though, no?

(You should see the ones I didn’t publish, complete with windshield glare. It’s ALL THE CAMERA’S FAULT.)

So sunrise. I know that with daylight savings time on full speed I should totally be able to meet the sunrise.

Should.

Anyway, our home faces east and with the contemporary architecture the sunrise brings all kinds of interestingly shaped light and dark spaces.

Which I tried to photograph to no avail.
And I really like how the sun hits the face of the hill next to our house. Which is way more stunning in person. IT'S ALL THE CAMERA'S FAULT.

(I did not take this at an angle, this is the actual incline of the hill next to our home. Our backyard is a cliff, our house sits at the bottom.)
But I did like this shot of our entryway for the shapes and lines.

(Pay no mind to the total NAKEDNESS and look of death to this space. I did not decorate for fall, I’M SORRY, and there’s no way our Christmas decorations are going up yet. I’m a purist on that one; not ‘til after the turkey crows. Or gobbles, or whatever.)

And in other fun, while trying to capture the sun rising over the trees across the street I encountered this issue.

(Do you like my neighbor's basketball hoop?)

I KNOW the problem is with the light and technical camera stuff and things I don’t understand but I much prefer to be one of those nutjobs who says that other-worldly things are interfering with their photographs. It only happened in this single shot.

I caught an angel at sunrise.

That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.

You can’t wait for next week. I can tell. Because I am an awesome photographer, I just have a rotten camera. (Thanks Gretchen!)
