Mr. Pixie Face

Having pictures of Joel is a treasure I can’t wrap my mind around yet. Having two sisters who took a lot of those pictures plus videos is a treasure I get to wrap my arms around. {{HUGS}} to Katie and Lis, there are no words. Having professional photographs of our son is a gift I have wrapped my arms around; a lovely woman named Monni, who loved our son instantly and did him justice in every precious shot. It feels some days like those pictures are all I have of him. They are the closest thing I get to touching and holding him. I study them, and intertwine them with my memories just trying to feel him for one more moment. One photograph I scrutinize and play with quite often is this one.

It isn’t the most polished one I have, or the one that shows Joel the most clearly. Do you know why I love this one? Because of his adorable little face.  My mom called it a pixie face, yes that is my Mr. Pixie Face. You see, his face swelled over time, and although he never lost his cuteness,

(LOOK at him, couldn’t you just eat him up?)

his face got puffy and I like to see him how he was just when he was born.

So I do this…

And then this…

And then this…

I just want to see every angle, every nook and cranny of his perfect face. I want to know him.

And I am so shocked every time that this little Mr. Pixie Face is my son. I had a baby, Leo had a son, and this adorable little creature is him. It’s hard to believe he’s real some days, that this all actually happened. But it did, and he is and I don’t get to forget. Some times I want to, but then again, how could I forget this face?

I love you Sara and I would have taken a million pictures if I could have to capture every moment of Joel's precious life on this earth. I wish I was still taking pictures of him for you and Leo. Joel will always be remembered and your faith in God and love for the Lord is an inspiration. I love you my amazing and beautiful sister, Lis

He takes my breath away, Sara. I don't think I saw that one. "Pixie" is the most apt word for that level of tiny-sweetness. LUV U.
